Ban All Members of Congress from Owning and Trading Stocks

We deserve to always know that our representatives in Congress are looking out for us, not their own financial interests. But right now, any member of Congress is allowed to own and trade individual stocks. That means that the same lawmakers whose job it is to pass and vote on legislation are also allowed to profit from the industries they are overseeing — a blatant conflict of interest that has helped block progress on priorities from climate change to health care to prescription drugs.

There are multiple bills under consideration right now in Congress that would end this corrupt practice and ban members of Congress and their families from owning and trading stocks, including H.R.1579 / S.564 (The Ban Conflicted Trading Act) and H.R.6678 / S.3631 (The Bipartisan Ban on Congressional Stock Ownership Act of 2022).

Send a letter to your member of Congress and let them know: Enough is enough. It’s time to ban all members of Congress and their families from profiting through ownership of individual stocks.
